The Limbe Old Market was consumed in flames in a twinkle of an eye on Monday 27th January, 2014.
This market is the largest of all in the municipality. Sources have it that this started after 2am on the morning of Monday 27th January 2014. According to some eye witnesses it was presumed that this fire erupted as a result of a forgotten electric iron on the previous day. Others speculated that it was as a result of a short circuit and this left over 50 stores destroyed. Also, the material damage is estimated to be over hundreds of million francs cfa.

It should be noted that despite the frequent occurrences of such nature in the city, there exist no firefighting brigade. The brigade could only come from Douala after many people had incurred losses and the flames were brought under control by the population. These occurs at a time when people have not yet even recovered from the incident that occurred just 7 months back in the same market. The Mayor of Limbe 1, Mbua Rodanny Mokako and Senior Divisional Officer of Fako, Zang 111, went to the site early Monday morning to assess the damage.
