BOVA TAXI DRIVER KILLED BY WRECKLESS DRIVER

By Moki Stephen Mokondo in Buea for Mount Fako News Centre
Tuesday November 8, 2016, was a sad day for members of the Buea Municipality, especially members of the Buea Taxi Drivers Union. They took to the streets after a private car knocked down one of their colleagues, Franklin Daniel Elongo, a native of Bova village, who was helping his passenger to load her luggage.

Their anger was provoked when the Buea Council toll truck removed the vehicle that hit the victim to an unknown destination before the police could arrive to record evidence relating to the accident.

The drivers halted circulation for close to five hours around Check Point- Molyko, where the accident occurred. They demanded justice on behalf of the deceased. Attempts within this period from the Divisional Officer for Buea, Kouam Wokam Paul, accompanied by the Mayor of the Buea Council, Ekema Partick Esunge and law enforcement officers to calm the angry drivers and other members of the public who were already fuming, failed. The drivers maintained that the Buea Council authorities must return the car to the scene of the accident for peace to reign.

Witnesses of the accident told Fako News Centre that the deceased, Mola Elongo had cleared off the road to help his passenger when the driver with the red Toyota Avencis car lost control and hit him from behind. The victim was rammed between the red Toyota Avencis and the bonnet of his taxi. He was rushed to the nearest medical facility around Molyko but was declared dead. He suffered several fractures including his head before giving the ghost.
The question many are still asking is why the Buea Council authorities took off the suspect’s car in a hurry before the police could take records of the accident.
