A young university girl whose name has been withheld for security reasons is in a state of dilemma after losing her property and school certificates in a fire incident that destroyed her boyfriend’s room recently in Molyko. The young student who is supposed to be living in the University of Buea Hall Of Residence her parents rented for her, instead abandoned her apartment to co-habit with her boyfriend in another hostel off campus called HIM’s Beland Flat. Unfortunately for her, an unexpected fire that broke out on the 30th of April 2014 consumed a section of the off campus hostel including her boyfriend’s room leaving only ashes. The girl had transferred all her belongings to her lover’s room at the beginning of the school year where they have been co-habiting without the knowledge of her parents. The problem now is on how the girl will present the story to her parents who had no idea of her new dwelling. Left only with her mobile phone and the dress she had on before the fire incident, she has been perching out with another friend in Molyko in the past weeks.
The fire that broke out in one of the rooms in the upper floor of the hostel later spread to other rooms on the same floor. All efforts to put out the fire by students and nearby residents ended futile. The cause of the fire is yet to be established. Students and other residents of Molyko explained that it would have been possible for the fire to be put under control if the town had a fire fighting brigade. Students complained that police officers from the Molyko Police station arrived to the scene only after the fire had consumed their property. Those of the ground floor added that some of their properties were looted as they tried to save them from being burnt.
